The other day I changed the description of this blog.
Let's face it.
It's morphed considerably from the early days where I posted reports on all the fun stuff we did and told you how you could do it too. Okay...maybe it's not SO different - but it's a lot more personal. Less of a guide, more of a vicarious journey.
So I changed the description from "balancing family, fitness, and a love of the outdoors" to "questions before breakfast".
A change was necessary because the balancing act is a farce. At least for us - now. All of these things go together. You don't have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Fitness can be outside and with your family. GASP! Or not. You can go out by yourself and get fit by yourself. But what about following our passions? What about attached parenting? What about all the changes we're making in our lives? It needs to be integrated.
So Questions Before Breakfast...
This has a few meanings.
First of all - we are embracing questions in our lives. All sorts of questions. Answering those questions, and asking MORE questions. Learning, asking, searching, solving, and following our passions are things that are becoming as natural as food - and those questions begin at first light. At first blinking. As the shower water runs down my back. As my son snuggles with his Spiderman blanket in his Star Wars PJs on the stairs and asks me those first bright things.
Our priorities are shifting majorly.
Second of all - both of my children are precocious beyond description. It's always been that way, and since Jonah stopped going to school, his question capacity has ramped up unbelievably. Both of them are exhaustive in their questioning - why, how, what for?
And third - I like the ring of it. Questions before Breakfast. Maybe someday I'll write a book or something.
