Whale Watch

The Whale Watch is Maeryn's only bucket list item for our trip.  She was cold but so excited!

We had planned to stay for a few days in Glouchester, MA, but we've been in Rye and it's not looking like we're leaving in the next couple of days.  Michael and Jeff are working tirelessly on getting the bus reading for boondocking.   We've also been invited to a jam session on Friday and I know Michael won't want to miss it.  The neighbor plays congas.  While in Glouchester, we planned on doing a whale watch - the same one I did as a kid - but since it's not to be, I was bummed.  Luckily, our hostess suggested that we do the Whale Watch right here in Rye.  So I bought tickets.  And we went!

The docks.  A one minute drive from Billy's parking spot.

Heading out to sea.  Both kids were scared they would be seasick, but none was reported.

We finally saw a whale.  You can't see her in this photo, but you can see where the kid is pointing - she went down only seconds before, tail raised in a fan over the waves.

I shot a couple of videos.  I missed the humpback showing off with her head out of the water and head and tail raised at once, but you can see some spouting and diving and get the idea.  These whales were 25 - 100 feet from the rail of the boat.

On the way back to the docks our "watch guide" gave us the scoop on a couple of islands we passed.  The one pictured above is rumored to hold the treasure of Blackbeard the Pirate and it is yet to be found.
