The Hometown Farmer's Market

We rolled into St. Mary's County Maryland late last night and pulled into Billy's old spot - the spot where we worked on the bus for almost two years.  Delightful.  There are many things I don't like about St. Mary's:  the too hot and extraordinarily humid summers, the culture of "everyone is out to get me" that sometimes permeates through everyone and everything, the traffic at rush hour...  but there are also many things I love about St. Mary's and I plan to do and see all of those things while I am here.

First - the Farmer's Market.  Ah!  The Farmer's Market!  We went this morning and it was so much better than ever.  My favorite vendors were all selling.  The bread lady with whom I exchange postcards was there with her fabulous aromatic baked goods.  The organic farmers - the peaches!!!  (I thought I had missed the peaches!).  I got all of my favorites.  What a great time to explore the market.  Eggplant, squash, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, onions, apples, peaches, cheeses...  Glorious.  I took the whole family so they could all relish in the wonder of the market.

When we arrived home we scurried to get ready for a wedding - but before we could, we had to snap this picture of our budding fashionista, who asked if we would please take her picture:

Ooo...I made a peach and root veggie soup a couple months ago (during high peach season). I heartily recommend trying it out some time--a fine combination of sweet and savory.
